Unit 9 - Motivation

UNIT 9

MOTIVATION

Unit 9 focuses on Motivation, but why is it important? Well, mainly for studying it is essential to always continue working hard until we achieve our objectives and to make us want to improve things, so that it becomes one of the most necessary key factors for a successful learning.

To this, I asked myself which was my motivation to learn a language, in this case English, and a part from just seeing the target language as a tool to get a job in an institution or getting good marks, I noticed that it was because it is part of me. I love English and during my internships I learned to manage it to teach others and I love it.

To the same token, another question would be how can I motivate my students to be interested to learn another language? According to the experience gained during the internships I observed that students had lack of confidence, a feeling that they are not able to succeed. So, in other to motivate them I found it very useful to practice encouragement, by praising them for a good answer or even homework by saying “Well done, keep doing it like this”. Also in the coursebook there were topics Students did not like or felt unfamiliar with, so I tend to add extra activities to make it more interesting. In addition, I sometimes let them choose a topic to talk about or a topic to create a debate for the next class, since there were not unmotivated instead they were demotivate, and needed to feel that their opinion was also important.

In conclusion, motivation is essential to achieve the goals and needs we want to get in our classes. Better still, in spite of just having a good classroom atmosphere by feeling pleasant and secure Students also need to make them feel responsible for their learning becoming a learner autonomy or having independence.

Most of the times to accomplish dreams it is necessary intrinsic and extrinsic motivation that is the reason why students also need to be motivated to achive their goals.

  3. You´ve done a great job Gaby. People always do things to obtain something and it happens the same with students they all have a motivation so we as teachers should take into account all the students' needs in order to shelp them to success. The videos you have included gives good examples and ideas about how learners get motivated and how they keep trying till they reach their goals.
