UNIT 11
THE ROLE OF ERROR
While I analyzed this unit I
learned the difference between error
and slip. To this, error is
when trying to say something that is beyond a current level of knowledge and
slips are just result of tiredness, worry or laziness.
To this there is a big
influence of the learner’s first
language or mother
tongue, in small sound pattern, lexis
or grammatical structure.
As a result, to get a greater accuracy
we may help our students by providing some interaction games like a jigsaw
puzzle, where they have to put them in order to have sense.
However, it is also
necessary to never correct them all the time because it will frustrate them and
will stop participating. Even if students are applying the language with overgeneralization, because it
will disappear by time to time and not just by telling them “Incorrect!”.
It is necessary to do not
make them also worry about perfection, since even native speakers don't care if you say
things perfectly or not as long as you can get the message across. To this, we
all as teachers should let them talk as long as they can be clearly understand and
be get the message they are trying to get across. However, if the message
becomes unclear, we should help them when it is appropriate to do not confuse
the rest of the class.
Better still, we should work
on avoiding students getting fossilized,
because those cannot be erase or improved therefore we should make our students
conscious of the errors they have by correcting them with tact and reformulation by just correcting
them without drawing the learner’s attention to their mistakes when we repeat
their words correctly to avoid demotivate them.

I really enjoyed the video that shows different techniques to correct errors. I notice that there are lots of creative ideas in order to encourage students to overcome their mistakes. I think that teachers should use they like reformulation instead of saying "no it`s incorrect"
ReplyDeleteI was surprised watching your videos because they show techniques and strategies to correct a learner. I got deeply understanding when and how correct learners' mistakes due to errors can't be splitted from learning process.
ReplyDeleteCongratulation!
